On Friday, Sept. 25, students attended a pep rally in the fieldhouse. Students got to enjoy performances, learn about how the sports teams are doing, and play a game called America’s Westwood Ninja Warrior.
The pep rally started off with cheerleaders dancing to a piece played by the Westwood Warrior Marching Band drumline.
“I like getting to show the school what we’re working on,” cheerleader Blake Wiggin ‘18 said. “It’s nervous and exciting at the same time. There’s so much adrenaline.”
To keep the energy level of attendees high, the SunDancers took the floor and performed a fun, lighthearted routine to the song King by Years & Years.
Afterwards, representatives from different sports teams gave updates on how their teams were doing and upcoming matches. The sports mentioned were swimming, volleyba
ll, tennis, football, and bowling.
The Breakdance Club then performed, showcasing all of their unique gifts.
“My favorite parts of the pep rally was when the SunDancers and Breakdance Club performed,” Valika Chu ‘19 said. “They were very talented and it was interesting to watch.”
To get more students involved in the Pep Rally, there was a game called America’s Westwood Ninja Warrior based on the show American Ninja Warrior. Participants were to do “Westwood things” at a fast speed. The tasks were to study a sheet at a table, show their ID card to Mr. Sherman Chen, spin around 10 times in a cheerleader outfit with their head resting on a hockey stick, get the crowd to do the Westwood chant, and receive a pass from Ms. Parks. After that, they were to answer a question from the study sheet.
The last event of the pep rally was when members of the baseball teams got to pie Assistant Principal Mr. Heith Walz and baseball coach Mr. Casey Carter as an act of celebration.
Overall, the pep rally boosted the enthusiasm of students as the end of the first six weeks draws near. The next pep rally will be on Friday, Oct. 16.
