Westwood’s Warriors (0-3) finished off Homecoming Week with a tough 56-6 loss against the Cedar Park Timberwolves (3-0) on Sept 10. The game was exciting nonetheless, featuring excellent performances from the band and Sundancers, as well as the crowning of our Homecoming King and Queen.

Following four touchdowns from the Timberwolves in the first half, the Warriors made their mark with a touchdown late in the second quarter. With only 2:49 left in the first half, Westwood scored their first touchdown. Number 2, Te’shon McGinnis ’17, rushed forward to get to Westwood’s 35 yard line, and number 10, Will Jennings ’18, had a great interception. The excitement from the touchdown crept into halftime, during which the Marching Band, Color Guard, Warrior Pride, and SunDancers gave wonderful performances leading up to the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen.

During the introductions of each member of the Homecoming Court, cheers made it easier to predict who would receive the honor. Finally, Christian Dittmer ‘16 and Brittany Hull ‘16 were crowned Homecoming King and Queen.

“It feels awesome,” Dittmer said amongst screams and cheers from the crowd that had formed around him. Hull nodded in agreement with a big smile on her face.

After the exciting halftime show, the football team gained a second wind. McGinnis was able to prevent a Timberwold touchdown with a close tackle.

“In the second half [we were] trying to give it our all and put the past behind us” explained number 10, Will Jennings.

The cheers from Warriors fans continued into the third quarter, but they quieted down as the score gap continued to increase. Despite a final score of 56-6, Coach Wood remained optimistic in the abilities of his team, especially his young players.

“Our execution is getting better, and our young guys are coming around,” Coach Wood said. “We’ve got a lot of young guys playing. I think overall, we’re gonna continue to improve and get better, and we’ll be fine.”

The continual support of the student section did not go unnoticed by Coach Wood.

“I thought seeing the student section out here cheering our guys on all the way til the end [really] showed what type of great community we have and the great support that we have from our fans,” Coach Wood said.

Once the game was finished, the football team held their heads high, making their fans and administration proud by congratulating the Timberwolves.

“It’s neat to be a part of the Westwood community.” said Mrs. Arterbury. “It’s more than a football game it’s about being a part of the Westwood community.”

The Warriors will play Hendrickson High School on Thursday, Sept 17 at 7 pm at Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex.
