- All of the members have been through so much, and they’re all the stronger for it. The original six members, Bobby, Hanbin (a.k.a., B.I.), Junhoe, Yunhyeong, Jinhwan, and Donghyuk went through a survival show called WIN: Who is Next? as a team. Unfortunately they lost, which meant participating in another brutal survival show, Mix and Match.
- iKON’s teamwork is unrivaled. Mix and Match proves this more than anything else. YG Entertainment threw three newbies in with the original six members, and scrambled them into two or three teams to compete for the final seven spots in iKON. Despite the competitive nature of the show, all the teams worked together to reach the dream they all shared.
- Even though they were competing against each other, they weren’t against helping each other out. For example, original member Yunhyeong and newbie Jinhyeong were both in danger of being eliminated, but Yunhyeong encouraged Jinhyeong with a soft smile to give Jinhyeong his confidence back.
- Their voices blend well together. Junhoe’s rough voice, Donghyuk’s sweet voice, Jinhwan’s addictive voice, and Yunhyeong’s stable voice blend well together. Even though they aren’t one of the original members, Jinhyeong and Hongseok’s lyrical voices with Chanwoo’s adaptable voice make iKON what it is.
- Their covers of American Pop songs are arguably better than the original. Jinhwan, Yunhyeong, Jinhyeong and Akdong Musician’s Lee Soohyun cover of Treasure is playful enough to make the CEO of YG Entertainment, Mr. Min Seok Yang laugh heartily.
- Their passion for performing on stage is enough to pull them through both brutal survival programs. In fact, Climax, an original song about wanting to sing on stage, shows how much passion and sacrifice it takes to become an idol.
- The members are recognized for their own individual talents. Bobby, iKON’s main rapper, is the champion of the korean show Show Me the Money 3. As an American rapper, he proved that the discrimination against foreigners in Korea is not that prominent.
- iKON’s popularity was high before they even debuted. They are one of the top 5 Kpop Artists to Watch in 2015, as announced by Billboard. My Type, iKON’s debut song claimed a “Certified All-Kill” by reaching No. 1 in all Korean streaming sites in both daily and real-time charts.

About the Contributor
Audrey Lu, Reporter
Hey, I’m Audrey Lu, a reporter for the Horizon. I am also a dedicated musician. When I’m not practicing piano or cello, I’m reading books while listening to music. I have a bizarre love of multitasking, and I’m in the process of writing a couple novels. I find it difficult to keep the inspiration for the book for more than a couple months and when the storyline begins to feel old, I begin another book. Later, I will come back to the first story and revive it with a renewed passion. I write creative stories with the same passion I write for the Horizon and I hope to continue doing what I love.
