District Policy for exempting semester exams
The second semester courses exempted shall not be the same courses exempted the first semester. For exemption purposes only, three tardies count as an absence in all classes no matter where they occur across the schedule.
Students 9th– 12th grades – may be exempt from up to three non-EOC tested course exams per semester for classes in which they meet the guidelines. The guidelines are as follows: students must have a semester average of 85 or above, have no more than two absences that semester from that class, and are present on the exam days when attendance is taken. Students will be required to take first semester exams in the fall in all EOC subjects; however they will not be required to take a spring semester final in EOC subjects. (EOC tested subjects are Algebra I, English I, English II, Biology, and U.S. History)
Students are expected to be in attendance on the days they are scheduled for an exam. If a student is absent and must miss taking an exam, the student must schedule a make-up exam with the teacher (during exam week or upon return in January)
Exam Exemption Policy:
- A student with an 85 average or above in the subject and no more than two absences may choose an exemption. For double-blocked classes, double the number of absences to determine exemptions (4 instead of 2). Tardies are not doubled.
- A student may exempt three exams per semester. A semester course may be selected for exemption. A full-year course may be selected only once, first OR second semester.
- The student is responsible for keeping up with the number of exemptions. Students who exempt more than three exams will receive a zero for all exams in dispute.
- Cumulative tardies count against exemptions. Tardies are counted in increments of three.
