McNeil Mavericks Defeat Boys’ Varsity 84-67

The boys’ varsity basketball team (2-1) faced off against their undefeated rival, the McNeil Mavericks (3-0), on Friday night with overflowing stands. The final score was 67-84, giving the Warriors their first loss of the season.

Throughout the entire night the game was very close, creating intense pressure for the players and fans. By the end of the first quarter, Westwood was down by seven leaving the score at 11-18.

“There’s always a lot of hype when we face McNeil and it’s always a very hostile environment and a fun one! [We] are doing great overall for this season.” Lucas Decaceres ‘16 said.

At the half, Westwood was down by 12, bringing the score to 28-40. Westwood never stopped fighting and by the end of the third quarter was only down by 16 leaving the score at 43-59.

The final score of the game was 67-84, forcing Westwood into their first loss of the season. The students wore red, white and blue to support the Warriors, bringing unity to the stands. Charlie Barrett ‘17 shot six threes, once again showing his strong talent and accuracy.

The Warriors will next play at home in the field house on Tuesday, Jan. 12 against Stony Point.
