Netflix is now available 200 countries and territories around the world.

Founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in 1997 in Scotts Valley, California, Netflix is now $5.50 billion company with a record 69.17 million subscribers worldwide, including more than 43 million in the U.S as of October 2015.

“I think it’s really cool that in over 200 countries we have something in common,” Sofia Penny ‘18 said.

Streaming was already available in about 60 countries. 130 more countries were added on Wednesday including Azerbaijan, India, Vietnam, Nigeria, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Singapore, Turkey and Indonesia.

“It sounds like a pretty good thing, Netflix brings unity,” Brandon Lutz ‘17 said.

Several countries are off-limits due to government restrictions on American companies including Crimea, North Korea, Syria, and China.
