The long awaited arrival of the annual Girl Scout cookie sales officially started on Jan. 20. Girl Scouts will be selling them for $4 a box and will last until Feb. 26.
This year, there is a new addition to the list of cookie classics. Just recently, the Toffee-Tastic cookie was announced and is the first gluten-free cookie. It is a golden buttery cookie with crunchy toffee bits and will be sold for $5.
Girl Scout Cookies go back to the late 1910s when Girl Scouts first started selling cookies to raise money for their troops. With every passing decade, cookie sales gained popularity, increasing demand. Now, cookie sales are known all around the nation, with eager customers waiting just about everywhere.
“I like Thin Mints because it has enough richness in the chocolate itself and a thin layer of mint, and it just makes it fresher,” Sharon Li ‘17 said.
Students will not have a hard time finding Girl Scouts to buy cookies from. Troop 609, comprised of freshman girls, and Troop 694, comprised of seniors, will be selling cookies. For only a limited time, these girls will sell cookies not only to earn money to support their troops but also to learn lifelong lessons in business and managing finance.
“I’m looking forward to actually once cookie sales are done because then we can use all that money to go on campouts, do charity projects, and do other things that girl scouts do,” Claire Tinker ‘19 of troop 609 said.
