International Baccalaureate Student Organization (IBSO) held their annual talent show on Friday, Jan. 29 in the cafeteria. Students part of IBSO displayed their talents and had a great time with friends, performing a wide array of acts ranging from magic tricks to a rap about Alexander Hamilton.

There were 18 acts in all, including two skits: Dick and Perry’s Excellent Adventure performed by seniors and A Present For Ms. Dang performed by her math HL class.

In Dick and Perry’s Excellent Adventure, the title characters, unsure about what to write about for an assignment, went on a journey in which they met characters and came face-to-face with events from topics they learned about in school, such as the American Revolution and The Scarlet Letter. In the end, they realized how meaningful the IB experience truly is, from the friends they made to what they learned.

In A Present For Ms. Dang, math HL students discussed with each other what to give to Ms. Dang for being a great teacher. At the end of the skit, Ms. Dang was called to the stage where the class handed her a wrapped gift and gave her a group hug.

Many performances were dedicated to music. One student, Jerry Chen ‘16, played La Campanella on the piano, an already challenging piece, yet there was one more curveball thrown in: he did it blindfolded.

“It’s easier than it looks,” Chen said. “Because when you’re doing something that’s technically difficult, you’re usually not using your eyes anyways, so even without the blindfold on, I would’ve been playing with my eyes closed mostly.”

There were also some dance performances including one acrobatics routine.

“Nervous, excited, mostly nervous,” Marie Yamamoto ’17 said, describing the feelings she had before performing the acro routine. “Participating was kind of like an in-the-moment decision.”

The show ended with the seniors of IBSO gathering on stage and singing along to “See You Again,” by Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth. The students performing together, next to the friends they made through their IB journey, was a bittersweet way to end to the night.

“I would say that the most important thing is the social gathering part of it and you also just have fun,” Michael Darmawan ‘16 said.

In all, the IBSO talent show served not only as an outlet for students to express their abilities but also as a time for friends to spend time with each other.
