'Captain America: Civil War' Fights Its Way to the Top

Making almost $181.8 million in its first three days at domestic box offices, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War is looking like it could be one of 2016’s top films. What made this movie so popular? The answer is actually quite straightforward: a mass of advertising, two contrasting yet impressive trailers, and of course, the inclusion of new and known superheroes.

Personally, as a huge Marvel fan, I was pumped for the movie release; I re-watched the trailers multiple times in order to absorb every detail provided within those three short, glorious minutes. Each time I replayed the short clip, I always caught onto something new, whether it was Spiderman’s sudden appearance, or Iron Man’s blood-feud against Bucky. The movie, without a doubt, drew the attention it called for.

When I finally made time to watch it at the theaters, I am proud to say that I was not disappointed by the two and a half hour long movie. I had already been exposed to several of the scenes through the released clips on Youtube, but the thrill of seeing them as part of the actual film itself was a whole different story on a whole different level. With the special effects and eye-popping graphics, certain scenes felt as if they had literally jumped out of the screen and into the theater, especially in the scene where Ant-Man grew abnormally huge. However, with multiple plots branching out from the main theme, it was a bit overwhelming for a forgetful mind like mine to keep up with all the given context.

The trailers gave away most of the major plot twists in the story, specifically the clash between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. What they didn’t reveal, though, were the minor conflicts that eventually led to drastic damage on both the protagonist and antagonist sides. I won’t spoil the film for those who have yet to watch it, but I will say that Captain America most definitely meets the expectations of any superhero loving fan.

Overall, I’ll give the Captain America: Civil War producers a round of applause for their outstanding work. They created a fun movie intended for all ages that progressed at a steady yet reasonable pace. Whether you are a hardcore Marvel supporter, such as myself, or simply looking for a movie worth your time, this film is a definite must from both the public and the critics alike.
