Oct. 18 marks National Chocolate Cupcake Day, a day for chocoholics and dessert lovers to indulge in the sweet treat. The day also falls in perfect alignment with the PSAT — take some time between stressing and studying to relax and enjoy something as simple as a chocolate cupcake.

Having not been blessed with any sort of baking skill, I sought out the help of a family friend who’s cupcakes had been sold at local coffee shops, but now sticks to making them for church events and volunteers. Despite never being much of a baker, he has mastered the art of creating the perfect cupcake, and creates cupcakes ranging from lemon to blackberry balsamic, and, of course, chocolate. His cupcakes aren’t overly large and filling, but still maintain a very rich quality without a sickly sensation or tremendous amount of guilt afterwards.

With the PSAT just around the corner, taking breaks while studying (or cramming) is very important and is very beneficial to your concentration and preparation for the test. So why not sugar coat something as stressful and time consuming as studying with something sweet and delicious? Take the time to relax and enjoy one of life’s great luxuries — chocolate cupcakes.
