Theater Students Perform Ivan and the Firebird
Westwood theater performed “Ivan and the Firebird” on Monday, Nov. 7 after working for around seven weeks to prepare for the show. “Ivan and the Firebird” is a Russian fairy tale centered around the journey of a hero, Prince Ivan. The firebird, who is actually a princess, collects gold for a man and won’t be transformed into a princess until the man is satisfied with his riches. When she takes gold from the tree of the Tsar, they realize what has happened. The Tsar tells his sons that whoever captures the bird and returns with the gold will become the heir to his throne. This journey of determination and desire to prove himself to his father leads to the rise of Prince Ivan as the next heir to the throne.
“For having a group that didn’t know each other very well and then becoming this huge ensemble and having such great chemistry within us,” Isabel Cameron ‘19 said, “I think we pulled off an amazing show, and I’m really proud to be a part of that”.
Many of the actors felt ready to finally perform after working for so long and could finally have an audience in front of them and share what they have accomplished with others.
“The most exciting part during the preparation of this show was seeing it all come together because on the first day of school we just read through the script and it was a lot less funny than it was when you could see it with a real performance and props,” Cameron said.
“It was fun and interactive when the actors would stand behind you and made you more engaged in the play,” an audience member said.
