In their first home game of the season, the JV girls’ basketball team defeated the Lake Travis Cavaliers in the last second of the game winning by two points with a score of 47-45 on Nov. 15. The intense game showed the teamwork and persistence this team will show throughout the rest of this season.

In the first quarter the Warriors called their first timeout at 0-2 when the Cavaliers got their first basket. After this the Warriors began developing a strong lead, and by the time the second timeout was called they led with a score of 11-5. With strong passes and the determination to score some points the team pulled out a generous lead going into the second quarter.

Though the Lady Warriors started off the second quarter strong with a three-pointer from Archita Sivakumar ‘18, the Cavaliers racked up points quickly catching up to the Warriors. The quarter ended with the pressure on the players to perform well in order to finish the second half of the game strong. By halftime, the point gap between the two teams slimmed to 24-20.

Beginning the third quarter the Cavaliers were catching up quickly and the Warriors held a slim lead, but by the end third quarter the Cavaliers had caught up to the Warriors and were leading 34-37.

The Warriors knew that they had to change something in order to win this game. They began communicating more and working in sync as a team like they had been performing in the first half. The game was tied at 45-45 with only seconds remaining, leaving everyone in the stands at the edge of their seats. Right as the buzzer beeped Sivakumar shot the ball and won the game for the Lady Warriors in the last seconds of the game.

“I was really pumped for our first home game and I’m really glad we got the win, and I’m glad we had so many supporters in the stands,” Christy French ‘19 said. “I’m really excited to play new people and begin to challenge our skills as a team throughout this new season.”

Come support the Lady Warriors this Friday, Nov. 18 as they take on the Rouse Raiders on their home court.
