In the third set of their spectacular game on Tuesday, Sept. 12, the JV Orange volleyball team defeated the McNeil Mavericks with an overall score of 2-1. The two teams showed great spirit and drive throughout the entirety of the game, but in the end the Lady Warriors conquered the opposition and took home the win.

“I think we really came together as a team, and we talked a lot more. That helped us come away with a win,” said Delaney Willing ‘21. “We could still definitely work on our movement, but we did do good this game,” Willing also added.

Throughout the game’s progression, the Mavericks and the Lady Warriors were neck and neck, ending the first set with a score of 25-21 for the Warriors and the second set with 25-19 for the Mavericks. Though victory seemed like a tenuous goal after their defeat in the second set of the game, the JV Orange team caught a second wind at the beginning of set three, something which was able to spur them on to conclude the final set with a final score of 25-19.

“I think that [the Lady Warriors] did a great job closing the game; they had a ton of energy and were communicating a lot, and that’s just what I’ve been asking of them,” said Coach Brissa Ochoa after the game. “There’s always something that we can work on though; our girls need to work on transition movement some more because that’s something that was hurting us.”

Standing now with an overall record of 9-8 and a district record of 2-0, the Lady Warriors are poised to further their success and take home more wins for the team. On Friday, Sept. 15, the Junior Varsity Orange team will step back onto the court against Cedar Ridge at Westwood , so be sure to go give them your support!
