JV Orange Volleyball Triumphs over Hedrickson Hawks
The Westwood Junior Varsity Orange Volleyball team defeated the Hendrickson Hawks 2-1 on Friday, September 29, 2017. While the Lady Warriors were able to win with relative ease in the first set, in the second set they had more trouble, though they were able to make a comeback in the final set.
“I think once we eliminated our errors and started talking to each other, it really helped us win,” Mikayla Piwonka ‘19 said.
In the first set, the Lady Warriors were the first to take the lead, and though the Hawks nearly caught up at 17-16, Westwood was able to keep going and ultimately win the set 25-17. The second set did not go as well for the Warriors, as the two teams were neck-and-neck until the Hawks handed the Lady Warriors a 23-25 loss. The final set was similar to the second, with both teams unable to gain a significant lead until Westwood pulled ahead to win 25-20.
“I’d say the biggest contributor [to our victory] was us talking and cheering, because we had a lot of communication that helped us pull through to win,” Emily Price ‘21 said.
Westwood’s JVO Volleyball team will have a game on Tuesday, October 10 against Cedar Ridge at Cedar Ridge High School.
