JV Girls’ Soccer Wins Over Stony Point Tigers 5-0
On Tuesday, March 6, the JV girls’ soccer team played the Stony Point Tigers at the Warrior Bowl on a chilly night. The Warriors ripped the stripes off the Tigers with a final score of 5-0.
Within the first three minutes, the girls were off to a good start. Isha Chhabra ‘20 scored a goal with assists from Katelyn Woodruff ‘21 and Anisha Chintala ‘21. The Tigers brought the ball down to the Warriors’ net, but the defense succeeded in kicking them out of their territory. Shortly after, Chintala shot and scored a goal making it 2-0. Following this goal and a throw-in, Chintala slid in, connecting with the ball and nearly netted a third goal. Woodruff, Chintala, Sophia Li ‘20, and Shelby Gregory ‘21 had many opportunities to increase the score during the first half. After an abundance of attempts, Chintala passed the ball to Li and who shot and scored, adding another to the scoreboard. The Warriors had multiple chances to put the ball in the back of the net before the end of the first half.
During the second half, the ball tended to stay near the Warriors’ goal, until Chhabra brought the ball towards the Stony Point goal. Shortly after, Colleen Wyrick ‘21 took a corner kick and Li shot on goal, but the Tiger goalie saved it. A Tiger offensive player had a chance to get the team on the scoreboard, but Dinah Bray ‘20 saved it from going in and kept the shutout alive. For the rest of the half, the crowd had their heads on a swivel due to the back-and-forth of the ball from goal to goal. Before the game ended, Claire Carpenter ‘21 and Woodruff scored on the Tigers to end the game 5-0.
“I think that they could have communicated a little bit more and been louder for each other and that helps with movement and helps with positioning and communicating who was going for what ball,” Coach McGalliard said.
The Lady Warriors will take on the Pflugerville Panthers at their next game on Tuesday, March 20 at 5:30 p.m. at the Warrior Bowl.
