On Thursday, Sept. 13, the JV football team took on the Hendrickson Hawks at Hendrickson High School. The two teams, distinguished as Team A and Team B, both fell short to the opposition with scores of 36-7 and 44-6, respectively.

The first game began with Team B, and started out with a slow build-up. After several tries against the strong opposing team, the Warriors’ offense couldn’t keep the ball, resulting in a 20-6 score by the third quarter. However, the team continued to play hard and keep the audience on their feet, as Alex Leija ‘21 charged with the ball across the field but got tackled, unable to make a point. Thus, the team fell short to the opposition’s gains.

“We always prepare them and get them ready for what type of offense and defense they’re going to face,” Coach Ronny Allen said. “And we felt prepared; we had our moments just sometimes, their athletic ability was just a bit better than ours.”

After a reenergizing huddle, Team A arrived on the field. They started off the game strong with more energy than was given in the first one, delivering the ball and scoring six points in the first two minutes. As glimpses of orange and white illuminated the field of dark blue jerseys, the Warriors continued to fight hard. Linebacker Lynden Jones ‘20 bounded through the opposition across the field, scoring a point for the team, making the crowd hopeful and enthusiastic. As the game proceeded, the Hawks started to bring more fire into the game and again, didn’t let the offense succeed, resulting in a loss of 36-7.

“I think our offense can [be] upfront and bring a little more effort than they’re already bringing,” Nick Kirklin ‘20 said. “They’re still doing their hardest but I think they can do a little bit better.”

Despite the loss, the JV football team brought consistent effort and will stay fighting as they play their next home game of the season against the Vista Ridge Raiders next Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Warrior Bowl.
