On Tuesday, Sept. 25, the JV Orange team dominated the Leander Lions and finished the game 2-0.

“The game overall went really well, we were playing a little down to their pace at the beginning, but we definitely picked up the pace and played to our level,” Coach Amber Hall said.

In the first set, the Warriors were neck and neck with Leander at 7-7, but McKayla Ross ’22 quickly pulled the game ahead with a block which scored the team a point. After that, the Warriors held the lead for the rest of the set. Giselle Kiefer ’22 executed a kill that landed a point which put the game at 14-7 and later, an attack from Erin Fagan ’22 pushed the score to 20-10. Kiefer won the set with a kill ending with a score of 25-10.

“I feel like we could have stuck to our skill level and the game would have gone a lot faster,” Emily Price ‘21 said.

Westwood grabbed the first point of the second set; however, Leander kept the Lady Warriors on their toes and evened the score. Madeleine Shrull ’21 continually blocked the Lions’ attempted hits and scored the team two points, which put the score 5-1. Price and Fagan also volleyed back and forth to add to the Warriors’ 8-4 lead. Delaney Willing ‘21 also pulled off some successful kills, as did Fagan, both scoring multiple points and eventually putting the score at 19-14. Fagan scored the winning point, ending both the set at 25-19 and the game at 2-0.

“Emily Price did amazing; she got so many kills and overall was great,” Sara Sagues ‘21 said. “The middles [middle blockers] also played really well.”

The Lady Warriors face off against their rival, the Round Rock Dragons, on Friday, Sept. 28.
