‘Sharknado 6: It’s About Time’ to Stop
If you are a big fan of inconsistent plot and useless subplots that fade in and out, then Sharknado 6: It’s About Time is the movie for you. Sharknado 6 is the final movie in the Sharknado franchise, and possibly the most ridiculous. Like a few of the others, the title is a double meaning; not only is it time to end the series, but the characters travel in time.
As the series goes on the movies get more and more ludicrous. In Sharknado 5: Global Swarming the world ends and Fin, the main character, is the only one left.
Then his son, who is now a time traveler (because suddenly they have that technology) appears and explains to his father that he must go back in time and stop the first sharknado to stop all the sharknados. There is no reasoning behind this “logic” and the filmmakers never attempt to explain. The movies aren’t really supposed to be for the plot but instead for the enjoyment of making fun of them.
The Sharknado movies have never been known for good graphics, and somehow the CGI in Sharknado 6 got even worse. Now not only do they try to create flying sharks but dinosaurs too, which doesn’t go well.
All ridiculous movies need celebrity cameos, and Sharknado 6 is no exception. When the group blasts into medieval times and destroy the first sharknado, they meet a few new people. One of these people is Neil Degrasse Tyson, who plays Merlin. But in the Sharknado universe, true to himself, Merlin is a scientist. Tyson has been in a few movies before and isn’t a bad actor. The Queen of this medieval castle is played by Jason Andrew Honard, a drag queen who was a runner up and later winner on RuPaul’s Drag Race. She probably didn’t win RuPaul for acting, because she was pretty bad. The rest of the cast, though some are annoying, are fairly good actors, because they’ve been in many movies. Seeing celebrities that you know in a movie is always fun so it was good that they added cameos to the movie, but it would have been much more enjoyable if they could all actually act.
Near the end of the movie, Fin sees holograms of two of his dead children, one of whom has dyed her hair since death and the other looks completely different. The actor for his daughter, Claudia, has already been changed since the first movie. Luckily they kept the same actor but her hair went from brown to white blonde. Fin’s oldest son, Matt, is played by a new actor, who looks totally different. These changes were abrupt and odd, you have to take a moment to realize who these people are and why they are relevant.
The Sharknado series has always been coined as “so bad it’s good” and the final movie was no different. It was fairly standard for a Sharknado film, so completely wild compared to most other movies. It’s such a horrible movie that it’s great, so if you’re looking for a movie to make fun of Sharknado 6 is a good option.
