To contribute to Project Linus, an organization dedicated to providing fleece blankets to troubled children, Student Council and Outreach joined forces to create handmade blankets on Monday, Oct. 22.

“We found an organization called Project Linus and what they do is collect blankets and distribute them to children in hospitals and social services, giving them a source of comfort because they’re going through a rough situation,” Community Service Chair Alice Zhang ‘20 said. “It was a fun event overall to just sit and make blankets. Also it’s just nice to be be able to do something for kids, especially as the weather gets colder.”

To create the blankets, the volunteers used donated fleece and employed a no-sew-blanket method.

“We put two [pieces of fleece] on top of each other and then we cut into the sides of them and then tied [the fringes] together to make it two-sided,” Community Service Co-Chair Sara Sayyar ‘20 said.

Through the event, the volunteers were able to channel their creative abilities into a cause that kept children warm and comforted.

“It was knowing where the blankets were going to, knowing that we were helping kids in the hospitals [that] was rewarding. We were putting the work in for something productive,” Sayyar said.
