Band Students Participate at TMEA Area Auditions

Jordan Van Gulick ’20 is one of the nine students who advanced. “After missing out last year by only one chair, I was really motivated to work myself harder than ever to accomplish my ultimate goal and I’m so glad it paid off,” Van Gulick said.

On Saturday Jan. 11, selected band students auditioned in the final phase of the All State Band audition process, at the Area Band Auditions at Duncanville High School. 23 of Westwood’s top musicians auditioned and nine of them walked out of the audition room with the title: All State Musician, the highest individual honor in the state of Texas for a high school band member. These students join 24 more of Westwood’s top musicians in orchestra and choir that will be attending San Antonio’s Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All State Convention in February. The final total of students attending the convention (33) is the third most in the state.
