Presenting to the attendees, Westwood Drone Club officers inform new members about the club’s purpose and timeline for the upcoming year.

Westwood’s Drone Club held their first general meeting on Thursday, Oct. 7 in room E1305. During the meeting, club officers introduced themselves to attendees and gave a presentation about the club’s purpose and their timeline for the year.

The club will be focused on building, designing, and piloting drones. Officers mentioned that they will participate in competitions as well.

While RRISD recently started a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program of study in Drone Aviation across all five of the district’s high schools, the Drone Club was created to allow further exploration into the subject.

“We also wanted to incorporate more of a building and engineering aspect, along with anything else that’s not included in the in-class program, which is why we started the club,” Club Sponsor and CTE Teacher Karina Kinsey said.

The Drone Club meets Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30p.m. to 6p.m. after school and during Fun Friday Flex. For more information about the club, visit their website.
