Current and new DECA members attentively pay attention to a presentation by DECA officers. DECA held two introductory sessions, one for underclassmen on Aug. 30, and one for upperclassmen on Aug 31.

Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) started off the year with an introductory meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 30. DECA is a global community of students and professionals within the business world. The program prepares future leaders, entrepreneurs, and high school students interested in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management all over the world.

During the meeting, the officer team, alongside chapter advisor Mr. Jeffery Siler, presented a slideshow including upcoming events such as DECA day and important future competition dates.

“I am excited for all of our competitions, overall they are really fun experiences and it gives [DECA] a sense of community,” Competition Representative Sobhisri Suthakar ’24 said. “Whenever you get to the next level you have this big proud achievement and even if you don’t, it’s just a good experience all around.”

DECA is one of the largest organizations at Westwood. In the 2021-2022 school year, DECA set several records including first place recognition at ICDC and having 18 members placing in the top 20 in the world for their respective categories.

The next DECA meeting will be held on Sep. 12.
