Warriors Relax at Roaring ’20s-Themed Homecoming Dance
On Saturday, Oct. 22, hundreds of students gathered at school to attend the annual homecoming dance, organized by the Pacesetters.
This year’s theme was Roaring ‘20s, and was implemented mainly in decorations such as hallways adorned with black posters depicting designs reminiscent of an Art Deco era, and gold streamers draped from the ceilings throughout the cafeteria and atrium areas.
“I think the theme was very fun, but I don’t think many people, including myself, really utilized it in what they actually wore to the dance,” Talia Philip ‘25 said. “I didn’t really see it implemented in the decorations or the dance itself, I thought the dance was actually pretty similar to how it was last year.”
In addition to a photo booth and complimentary food and drinks, this year’s dance also offered games, such as Blackjack, at card tables in the atrium. Pacesetters also created a ‘20s-themed speakeasy room exclusive to seniors.
“I think it was a really nice break to have from just dancing,” Michelle Huang ‘25 said. “If I got tired from dancing, I could go play cards.”
The Westwood Garage Band performed for the first time at a Homecoming dance, and their set included songs such as Sweater Weather, Transparent Soul, and Hard Times.
“The Garage Band always has really good music selection, I love their vocals,” Olivia Jung ‘25 said. “They have really good skills, [and recently] they increased their members a lot, so it was interesting to watch too.”
The success of this dance was a result of tireless work completed by the Pacesetters, including long amounts of planning accomplished by different committees, such as decorations and advertising, to name a few. In addition to this, on the day of Homecoming, junior and senior Pacesetters arrived at school at 9 a.m. the day of the dance, spending hours preparing school areas.
“I am excited for next year’s Homecoming [because] I think it will be fun to have even more of an input,” Pacesetter Tayla Score ‘25 said. “It will be fun helping decide the theme and stuff like that.”
With the conclusion of Homecoming season, Pacesetters are offered a break between next year’s festivities, already keeping in mind ways to top the success of this year’s dance.
