Freshman Boys Basketball Handles Vandegrift 59-46
The freshman boys basketball team played Vandegrift for the first time this season on Friday, Jan. 20, beating the Vipers in a convincing 59-46 win.
The game started with the Vipers winning the tip-off, leading to a score, but the Warriors responded right back with a basket of their own. The first quarter was filled with defense, with John McNair ‘26 recording two steals and scoring five points. The first quarter ended with a 17-8 lead by the Warriors.
The second quarter continued the Warriors offensive success, with Sumner Holland ‘26 finding the basket and recording two three-pointers. The Warriors defense held on strong with McNair recording another steal and a block, and with a late-half three pointer from John Chuo ‘26, the Warriors went into halftime with a 36-21 lead.
The third quarter was highlighted by the Warrior’s ability to hit three-point shots with more from Holland, as well as one from Patrick Jeng ‘26. The quarter ended in dramatic fashion with McNair hitting a Buzzer-beating three that sent the Warriors into the fourth quarter with momentum, leading 53-35.
“I credit [my performance] to coach,” McNair said. “In practice he pushes me, pushes our team, he pushes everybody.”
Vandegrift mounted a fourth quarter comeback with the Vipers only allowing the Warriors to score six points, and getting within ten points of the final score. However, a basket by Wade Allen ‘26 near the end of the game ensured victory for the Warriors.
“This is one of the better games we have played all season,” Coach Tremale Bouldin said. “We played very scrappy, very determined, we played team ball, and got a great win today.”
The Warriors will face Stony Point on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 5:30 P.M. in the Aux Gym.
