Fred Fisher ’24 holds up a championship belt at the district tournament at Vandegrift High School after advancing to regionals.

Wrestlers Olivia Bush ’24 and Fred Fisher ’24 competed in the district tournament last month and advanced to the regional competitions in San Antonio at the Virgil T. Blossom Athletic Center on Saturday, Feb. 11.

“Even though I didn’t place, I still really enjoyed it and got lots of good experience,” Bush said. “This was my first year going to regionals so I was so nervous for it because everyone there is super good. I wasn’t upset that I lost, I was more upset that the season was over. I am happy to have had that experience. Hopefully next year I can advance to state.”

Last month, 23 wrestlers from Westwood competed against other local high schools in district competitions at Vandegrift High School.

“It was really fun, I did okay,” Fisher said. “I made some mistakes, but I feel like I got better over the year so it was an accomplishment to even get there. It was really cool to be in a big stadium watching wrestling.”
