Class of 2024 Showcases Strengths for Senior Class Election

Focused on milestones such as senior sunrise and senior awards, senior class StuCo officers work to ensure the success of their senior year.

Below is more information about each of the candidates running for a senior class position:

Ava Dasari ‘24: Senior Class President Candidate Plans a Memorable Senior Year

From senior sunrise to a senior mural, Senior Class President Candidate Ava Dasari ‘24 has plenty planned for the class of 2024’s final year at Westwood.

“My plans entail a lot of things about bringing the seniors together,” Dasari said. “That means planning fun activities, and making sure other activities go smoothly [as well].”

Dasari already has experience ensuring events such as Prom run smoothly, having helped coordinate the date change of prom to accommodate members of organizations with overlapping circumstances, like women’s lacrosse and DECA. Focusing internally, Dasari wants to maintain a sense of camaraderie within StuCo.

“StuCo is a really tight-knit community of people who have a passion for making the school a better place,” Dasari said.

Danny Deng ‘24: Senior Vice President Candidate is Dedicated to Senior Community

Danny Deng ‘24 has served on StuCo since middle school. His experiences as Freshman Class President, Sophomore Class Vice President, and Junior Class Vice President have shaped his plans. As Senior Class Vice President, Deng plans to cater the senior experience to be as enjoyable as possible.

“The Senior class usually focuses on senior awards, because we have all that money leftover,” Deng said. “But my platform [is] really focused on just making the most of the money we have left on closing our socials and paying back the class. You know, maybe host a fair or go to Main Event, anything anybody wants.”

StuCo has always been at the forefront of Deng’s priorities, and he aims to maintain the tight-knit community that has developed among the class of 2024.

“[StuCo is] a community really because we’ve been together since freshman year and we’re very, very tightly knit,” Deng said. “I’m really dedicated to this.”

Shreya Nampoothri ‘24: Senior Class Vice President Candidate Wants Collaboration

Recognizing the residual setbacks from the year spent virtually, Senior Class Vice President Candidate Shreya Nampoothri ‘24 wants more class bonding for their last year in high school.

“My plans are to make sure that the seniors get a successful sunrise and sunset, as well as more bonding because our freshman year was online,” Nampoothri said.

Abigail Winkelman ‘24: Senior Class Treasurer Candidate Encourages Volunteering Opportunities

Aiming to strengthen the community, Abigail Winkelman ‘24 advocates for more service opportunities for the student body.

“[I] also [hope to] expand student council, because a lot of our volunteer opportunities are just for StuCo hours,” Winkelman said. “The volunteering we do is important, [it] helps our community.”

Winkelman began her involvement in StuCo in middle school and has remained an active member since.

“StuCo means giving a voice to the student body,” Winkelman said. “It means volunteer opportunities, a way to give back to the community that gives us so much already.”

Brooke Xu ‘24: Senior Class Parliamentarian Candidate Boosts School Spirit

Aiming for a more collected student body, Brooke Xu ‘24 is running for Senior Class Parliamentarian.

“I want to see stronger school spirit and increased participation in events,” Xu said. “I also hope to make Student Council more accessible for those not already involved in it, by making the requirements to run for office known by all students.”

Having past leadership experience from StuCo and community-serving non-profits, Xu is prepared to serve as Parliamentarian.

“Whenever I have a vision or clear goals, I’m very passionate about reaching them,” Xu said. “I won’t back down in face of obstacles and will persevere to reach my goals.”
