Beabadoobee’s New Unreleased Song ‘The Way Things Go’ Interprets Breakup In a New Way

Beabadoobee, a Filipino-English singer-songwriter, has recently announced the release of her new song, “The Way Things Go.

Starting her career as a teenager, Beabadoobee has gained lots of attention from the music industry dating back to the release of her first single ‘”Coffee” in 2017. Her songs contain a mixture of lo-fi, indie rock, and pop music, attracting a broad audience and fanbase.

“The Way Things Go” contains her signature poetic lyrics and infectious melodies, which has already enticed her fans. While the song has not been officially released, Beabadoobee has shared clips of her new song on her social media platforms and at her concerts, increasing her fans’ anticipation exponentially.

Building onto the excitement which has pervaded her fans, Beabadoobee has already begun talking about this special song a lot. During her Beatopia Tour in Berlin, she said that “it’s one of [her] favorite songs [she has] written so far” and also mentioned how this is the only breakup song her fans will get in her next album. This information also alluded to how her new album would contain more love songs.

Quite similar to her other breakup songs such as “The Perfect Pair” and “Used to This” (unreleased), “The Way Things Go” talks about how it feels to slowly forget about the memories of a past lover. The song is an ode to her past lover and discusses  how Beabadoobee “can’t remember how to say [their] name” or “let alone count the freckles on [their] face.” She describes how hard it is to remember her lover’s name or the details of their physical appearance.

While other breakup songs often talk about how they miss their past lover and their memories together, Beabadoobee rather explains how she feels relieved that she has moved on and even hopes that her lover lives a happy life. She accepts the fact that sometimes, things have to change, and that’s the way things go.

Later in the song, she reveals the reason for their breakup is their long-distance relationship and their distance that is “miles away.” She blames herself for not noticing the love that her significant other showed during their relationship and for forgetting their memories. Despite her pain and sorrows over the breakup, she decides to let it go and accept the fact that the breakup was meant to happen.

The release date for this new song will be on Tuesday, July 18th. Although the song hasn’t been released, it has been getting lots of attention: fans are pre-saving her song on Spotify and Apple Music, even using her audio on TikTok. Fans are hoping this masterpiece will be an extension of her growth as a musician, showcasing her abilities and talent as a singer-songwriter.
