On Thursday, Sept. 14, Neuroscience and Neurodiversity Club hosted their first introductory meeting of the year after school in Dr. Plocher’s room where officers presented important information about the club’s mission and goals for the year.
“Our club aims to be different from traditional psychology, neuroscience, or science based clubs,” Founder and President Akhilesh Pissay ‘24 said. “We focus more on neurodiversity and the concept that we [each] have a different interpretation of the world and that this interpretation is something that’s very valuable to learn.”
The club offers members unique opportunities such as interacting with neurodivergent individuals as a collaboration with Peers Inspiring Creativity (PIC) Club. Additionally, the club allows members to prepare for a career in neuroscience through competitions such as the Brain Bee.
“We have been talking to the [the National Certification Corporation] to set up meetings with them, and we are also gonna talk to a neurosurgeon that we were bringing for guest sessions,” Pissay said. “The main thing is to foster a diverse environment so that the club will last for years and years.”
