On Tuesday, Oct. 17, JV Orange volleyball knocked out the Manor Mustangs 2-0 in a quick sweep, less than a week after their last sweep against McNeil.
The Warriors got up to a large lead to start the first set, not giving the Mustangs a chance to get more than five points. In the second set, Manor High School attempted to make a run at a comeback and did not relent as the set was very close until the Lady Warriors took the lead once again, and not letting up, winning the whole game. Throughout the game the Lady Warriors showed resilience and trust in each other aiding in their win.
“This season as a team we have improved on just trusting each other and getting to know each other more,” Jenna Mewhinney ‘26 said. “In the beginning of the season we had no idea even eachothers names, we now trust each other and we know who is going to get what.”
In the first set, the Lady Warriors started off the game on the right foot by getting the first point and taking an immediate lead. The Lady Warriors flourished, maintaining high spirits and keeping communication consistent. Lila Wellington ‘27 led the offense in the first set hammering down a kill, and knabbing 3 aces. Partway through the set, Lilly Toledo ’26 went on a serving streak of 7 straight points, and Caroline Kiefer ’26 killed an overpass on multiple occasions, holding the Mustangs to single digit points. When the score ran all the way up to 18-2 the Mustangs called a timeout in hopes to recuperate and make an attempt at a comeback, but it was short lived as the Lady Warriors captured a scoring streak of 17 points ending the set with a score of 25-3.
“[In this season] I have gotten a lot faster and I have learnt more sets and how to become faster at them,” Kiefer said.
The Mustangs kept the Lady Warriors on edge, trying to force a third and final set, and the game was neck-and-neck through the first few points. The Lady Warriors called a time out when they were struggling, losing 4-7 and quickly made a comeback tying the score, at 13-13. Sadie Hill ‘26 led the charge in the second set putting down two kills, with Kate Petty ‘26 also getting a kill. The Lady Warrior kept a slight lead with the Mustangs throughout the rest of the set and won 25-20 taking the win in yet another sweep.
“I would say [this game was] ambitious because we had a goal in mind and we wanted to end it fast and not go to three [sets], and everyone was running good freeball plays,” Hill said.
The Lady Warriors will play next on Friday, Oct. 20, at Stony Point High School nearing the end of district play.
