On Friday, Oct. 6, the JV White volleyball team played the Vista Ridge Rangers in a two set game, ultimately ending in a loss for the Warriors. The Warriors comfortably held the lead for the majority of the first set and at multiple points during the game, but could not hold onto it. The Rangers were only able to defeat the Warriors in the first set during the last 4 points in a frustrating outcome for the Warriors. Despite the loss in the first set, the Warriors continued to play strong defense and looked to make quality serves in the second set.
In the first set, the first point went to the Rangers but the Warriors wasted no time getting back into the game, running up the score to 6-2 before the ball went back to the Rangers. From there, the score stayed close for the rest of the first half as both teams went back and forth. Westwood was able to score on quick blocks, not giving the Rangers enough time to react and strong serves that their opponents couldn’t control. They kept up their intensity until the very last point of the set, continuing to talk and work together, but lost their momentum toward the end and ultimately lost.
“[They’ve improved on] their communication and playing as a team rather than just individuals,” Coach Brooke Kobren said. “The biggest thing that I am worried about is just making sure we improve since the last time that we played them.”
Starting the second half, the Warriors got down early and by a wide margin, 17-6. However, neither side let their energy down and the Warriors were able to make a huge comeback before the set ended closing the gap in hopes of extending the game, but ultimately losing only by 6 points.
“I feel like we did pretty good as a team,” Grace Williamson ‘26 said. “We definitely picked it up towards the end. We were stressing out a lot but [after] the timeout we called to pick it up, we definitely picked it up.”
The Warriors will play their next home game against McNeil on Friday, Oct. 13, at 5:30 p.m.
