On Oct. 28, the Westwood Warrior Marching Band made history by placing third at the Bands of America (BOA) St. Louis Super Regional in St. Louis, Missouri, competing against 80 bands that attended.
“I’m really proud of third place,” Adaline Boyd ‘26 said. “We worked really hard and had a lot of fun, and I’m happy with the score and our work.”
The band scored 89.7 out of 100 at the competition and won the Outstanding Musical Performance award during the preliminary performance award ceremony.
“It makes me feel confident that we will just keep getting better and better every year,” Emilio Vidrio ‘27 said. “I have really high hopes and expectations for the future.”
The band impressively broke numerous school records in a single night at finals: scoring the highest the band has ever scored at a BOA competition, placing third at a Regional and Super Regional, and being awarded an Outstanding Performance caption at a BOA competition. Achieving a caption means that a band had the best performance out of everyone in a specific category they are being judged in.
“I’ve heard so many captions announced for other bands in my four years,” Joseph Clements ‘24 said. “It was very exciting and even a little surreal when it was our name finally coming from the loud speakers.”
After competing, the band also went sightseeing and visited many tourist attractions like the Gateway Arch, the aquarium, and the City Museum, further bolstering their tight-knit community.
“It was really fun seeing all the different things at St Louis with my friends [because] I’ve never been [to St. Louis] before,” Aarav Singh ’26 said.
