All four Westwood Choirs came together on Tuesday, Feb. 27 to perform their Spring Pre-University Interscholastic League (UIL) concert at Hope Presbyterian Church for family and friends. The concert enabled the choirs to share their UIL choral pieces with the choir community, in addition to providing a chance for singers to rehearse and showcase their competition songs.
The spring semester is a busy one for Westwood Choir, including the UIL competition, Madrigal Festival (MadFest), and a host of concerts at Hope Presbyterian. The performance of pieces performed on Tuesday had been rehearsed and performed for months.
“We had performed that music a few times before,” Chamber and Innova member Stella Marquardt ’25 said. “We had the sendoff concert, and we had the actual MadFest concert, so it was a little repetitive, but that was the time I felt we performed the best.”
Confidence and energy among choir members were high at the concert, resulting in an enthusiastic performance ahead of the UIL competition.
“Collectively we did pretty good for our repertoire,” Chamber member Jonathan Simon ‘25 said. “Compared to prior concerts, we had higher concentration and higher energy, and I’m happy with how it turned out.”
Westwood Choirs perform next at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation on Monday, March 4 and Tuesday, March 5 at Georgetown High School. More information can be found here.
