Fighting hard, the JW white volleyball team shut out the McNeil Mavericks 2-0 on Friday, Sept. 13. While starting the sets at a points disadvantage, the Warriors worked their way back ultimately securing the victory.
Early in the first set, the Mavericks got an early 4-1 lead over the Warriors but a quick timeout gave the Warriors what they needed to tie it back up at 9-9. For the rest of the set, the teams were neck and neck, keeping it close, and remained within a single point until the end. But the Warriors eventually pulled ahead, winning 25-22.
“We all really wanted a win after the loss to Hutto,” Madelyn Ivy ‘27 said. “Even though we got off to a rough start against McNeil, we were able to regain focus and push through.”
Coming off their lead in the first half, Westwood was determined to secure a victory against the Mavericks. Juliet Guyton ‘28 spearheaded this effort scoring four aces in a row immediately giving the Warriors a head start. Working smoothly and communicating, Westwood won the set 25-15 not giving the Mavericks a chance to retaliate.
“My favorite part of the game [was] when we were hustling and putting in a great effort,” Lucy Aldrete ‘28 said. “The team as a whole did their best overall, staying on their feet, hustling after every ball, and not giving up on any play.”
The Warriors will play their next game at home against the Stony Point Tigers on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 5:30 p.m.
