To kick off another year of choir collaboration and performance, on Tuesday, Sept. 3, the choir officer team orchestrated and led Choir Camp, a series of activities designed to build camaraderie and unite the choirs before the rehearsal and performance season starts. The officer team, consisting of seniors Shrishti Mahajan, Kritanko Chakraborty, Jonathan Simon, Minsung Kim, and Anika Salsberry, began work on the event weeks in advance, using the previous year’s iteration as a springboard.
“It was mostly on the officers to plan out pretty much everything that we were doing other than food – since that was the job of the Booster Club,” Chakraborty said. “We started by first figuring out where choir camp would be, because last year it was in the choir room, but this year we wanted to do it in the cafeteria so we had more space since we had more people this year.”
At the event itself, the officers kicked it off with introductory games, to learn names and break the ice for many first-year choir students. The attendees separated into color groups before embarking on a scavenger hunt across the school, which Chakraborty led. The event then concluded with all choir members reuniting to perform the alma mater at the Varsity Volleyball game later that night.
“I think [this year] we had more time to prepare, and it was more organized,” Chakraborty said. “The one thing I will say is, since we were singing for the volleyball game, and their timing was subject to change, it took us a bit longer than we thought to get back and eat after. But overall, I think it went really well.”
Choir will take the stage for the first time this year during their Fall Concert at Hope Presbyterian Church on Sept. 23.
