Annually holding a week-long celebration of school spirit and fun dress-up days, Student Council (StuCo) arranged Howdy Week to take place from Monday, Aug. 26 to Friday, Aug. 30. Each day, a new theme allows for students and staff to dress up in unique and fun ways.
The week began with Adam Sandler Monday. The celebrity is frequently seen wearing oversized t-shirts, baggy shorts, and a pair of sneakers — a look many students not only recreated, but bonded over.
“Spirit Week allows you to dress up in fun ways that are unlike [how] you would usually dress,” Carolyn Craig ‘25 said. “[I love how Howdy Week] helps unify school spirit throughout Westwood.”
Tuesday was Twin Day, prompting students to come to school in matching outfits, whether it be in pairs, or even a whole group of people.
“I decided to dress up for Twin Day this year because it made the day exciting, and it was a fun way to connect with my friend,” Annie Curtis ‘26 said.
On Western Wednesday, the Administration team grabbed the reins on the theme and showcased their full-western getup of cowboy hats, boots, and jeans.
Thursday was Rhyme without Reason Day, where students dressed up as two different things that rhyme, without any context or similarities. For example, Bella Yi ‘26 and Mayla Montgomery ‘26 dressed as Willem Dafoe and Vote for Pedro.
“[Howdy Week is] important because it’s a good chance for us students to dress up with our friends and take our minds off of school for a moment,” Yi said.
Friday was Orange Out Day in order to get everyone hyped for the first football game — against the Midway Panthers, as well as to prepare for the first pep rally of the year, where StuCo revealed the Homecoming theme, Level Up.
“Howdy Week allows students to be creative and different,” Craig said. “It lets us dress in funny ways and express ourselves without being judged.”
