On Tuesday, Sept. 3, varsity tennis destroyed the Lake Travis Cavaliers with a score of 17-1 with another decisive win for the Warriors. Bounding closer to their district tournament, the Warriors remained strong throughout the match and secured their win.
The game started with each duo demonstrating their powerful teamwork in the doubles matches. Sibi Raja ‘25 competing with Devon Zhang ‘26 won their match 6-2 and 6-1 and a 6-0, 6-1 win by Maya Rajan ‘28 and Lily Wang ‘27 soon followed, putting the Warriors undefeated in the boys and girls doubles division.“[My partner and I] played line two, mixed doubles,” Rajan said. “We won, but it was a tough match. I missed a lot of my volleys and my serves weren’t quite on point. [My strategy] is to hit my shots and mostly make my serves.”
Janya Tellabati ‘26 and Anwi Duduka ‘25 showcased their skills in harmony, emerging victorious with a score of 6-0 and continuing their winning streak in the women’s line two singles. The series concluded with a score of 8-1. Trailing the line doubles, Zoe Chen ‘25 and Justin Lu ‘27 shut out the Cavaliers 6-3 in their mixed doubles game.
“[My strategy for this game was] to just make sure to keep attacking and to make sure to keep communicating,” Tellabati said. “I struggled to stay focused and to make sure to take our foot off the pedal even though we were leading by a lot. [This season] I am looking forward to playing with all the seniors this year. I spent about 3 years with them and it’s sad to see them go but I am also excited for them.”
Toward the end of the game, the players focused on the singles matches. Daniel Zhang ‘26 swept a win for the Warriors with a score of 8-2.
Varsity tennis will play against Ft. Bend Clements High School on the Warriors home court on Friday, Sep. 6.
