Marking a successful start to the season, Westwood Choir presented their annual Fall Concert at Hope Presbyterian Church on Monday, Sept. 23. Full of excitement for another successful year of choir, members showed off their vocal prowess, demonstrating the hard work they’ve put into choir thus far.
Regarding the distinctiveness of the transition from middle school into high school, the concert emphasized the power that Westwood Choir holds. For freshmen, and other new members of Choir, the concert served as the culmination of their transition from middle school choir to high school.
“The choir directors are different in the way we learn music [and] there’s more freedom in it,” Reese Miller ‘28 said.
The prior success within the choir program creates an expectation to once again strive to reach the same heights they have in previous years. Choir consists of different groups based on skill level and vocal range. As members move from Cantare, the junior varsity treble ensemble, into Innova, the varsity treble ensemble, there are new challenges to confront as the intensity increases.
“[In Innova there is] much more challenging music along with bringing a different environment with more work heavy [music],” Zoeya Chowdhury ‘27 said. “One of the songs that I found very difficult was You Are My Song.”
Marking the first concert with the perfect blending of all their voices, the excitement of the choir begins to grow. With adapting to the new members and learning how to all create music together during the beginning of the year, the first concert marks the unification of each group into one cohesive team.
“The first concert was very exciting coming back,” Arturo Rendon ‘27 said. “I did mess up a little bit but that was only because Chamber was singing with us and they were louder than we were, so it was a bit off for me.”
Choir will perform again Thursday, Nov. 7 at their Vertical Choir Concert.
