From Bach’s pureness to Stravinsky’s anger and dissonance, the Westwood Warrior Marching Band’s show Timeless has it all. Following an outstanding performance at the UIL Region 26 marching band contest on Tuesday, Oct. 15, the band will advance to the UIL Area D marching contest after receiving sweepstake scores of all ones. UIL rates bands from a one (superior) to a five (poor) rating.
“[The band] had a solid UIL run,” Diego Sardan ‘26 said. “It was better than TMC, and I’m excited we advanced to area.”
The band’s goal for the season is to achieve back-to-back participation in the UIL State Marching Band Contest for the first time in the school’s history. To advance to the state level, the band will have to place within the top five at the UIL Area D Marching Contest. With intense competition from the accomplished band programs at other high schools such as McNeil and Cedar Ridge, advancing will be challenging.
“We have 2 weeks until [UIL] Area,” Sardan said. “There’s lots of improvements that can be made, but that’s the exciting part. It means that [the band] can put on something special at [UIL] Area.”
The Warrior Band will compete next at the UIL Area D Marching contest on Saturday, Nov. 2.
