Gregory 9/10
Throughout all three seasons, Gregory is a rock and the most consistent with his actions and mannerisms. He is very observant about what goes on in his surroundings which makes him inclined to help out in situations in the school where many of the other teachers were out of the loop. Gregory adds comedic relief to the show in very minimal ways, his facial expressions and side eyes always silently elevates the humor of the show and his quick comebacks never fail.
Janine 9/10
She is the most smiley and optimistic character, yet somehow the most hated on the whole staff. Janine is the main character followed throughout all three seasons and is oftentimes used as a punching bag for all of the other teachers in the show. Her kindness and willingness to help change the school for the better is always overshadowed by her unsuccessful and inefficient attempt at it. When she moved jobs and began to work at the district, she did not leave Abbott’s students and faculty and she made sure to come visit and help out as often as she could. She never left her friends high and dry, and even when bigger and better opportunities came to her, she stuck to her roots and stayed at Abbott.
Barbara 8/10
Being one of the strongest motherly figures within the staff, Barbara is always there when someone needs a pep talk. In many situations Janine needs not only a supportive hand, but help and advice in which Barbara comes to save the day. In every scenario Barbara laughs and makes jokes about Janine’s ambitious and insane-sounding ideas, yet when the hard times come, Barbara always makes sure to give her all of the support needs. She is the character who can go on with their issues and know that they will get advice from a place of love.
Mr. Johnson 8/10
Mr. Johnson is a very quirky character with great wisdom and jokes. He shows tough love to his coworkers, but underneath he has a soft heart for all the students and staff he works with. Being the janitor (and on occasion substitute teacher) he is portrayed as someone who doesn’t like kids and is not happy with his job, yet there are moments that he lets this mask slide and he shows his excitement. With unconventional methods and offbeat comments, Mr. Johnson is free spirited and it is always intriguing to see what he will say next.
Ava 7/10
Throughout the whole series Ava’s character has the most growth. In the beginning of the show she was disconnected from the school and had the most minimal effort in anything she was tasked with. All of the teachers knew that Ava was no help and she would often just be doing her own thing. She did add a lot of the humor and laughs to the show with her personality and judgy nature. The main thing perfect about her character is that when the time comes she will be there doing the best she can to help the school. Whenever the school was endangered to going private, when she was at risk of losing her own position, and when the school had a chance of being majorly underfunded, Ava made sure to give it her all in her own weird and spunky way. She might not always be on top of things, but when duty calls she answers.
Melissa 7/10
Melissa is oftentimes the saving grace, and ring leader when it comes to issues at the school. She has an endless amount of connections with various people in all fields. Oftentimes, she was the person to fix problems that the rest of the staff had no idea on how to fix. She is very strong headed and sometimes a little too harsh with her fellow teachers. She doesn’t always know where to draw the line with small arguments and she would hold strong grudges. Melissa is a good friend and confrontational when needed, but without her presence in the work environment the staff at Abbott elementary is likely to crumble.
Jacob 6/10
Though he does have his own special and sweet moments, Jacob is the teacher that is not always on the same page as everyone else. He often has trouble keeping secrets and is not always aware of his surroundings when announcing important information. His heart is in the right place, yet he struggles to get that point across. Oftentimes he does not realize that his long dwelling stories and opinions are boring or hurtful to his friends and fellow employees. He is very passionate about teaching and impacting the next generation, yet oftentimes his enthusiasm comes off as too much or naive to others.
