As part of their monthly community service activities, Outreach Club came together for their library organization event on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in an effort to aid the librarians with their daily duties.
Library organizations are a monthly Outreach tradition started by last year’s officer team in an effort to promote appreciating and assisting the more underlooked staff departments on campus. To commence the event, students gathered in the library’s Great Room after school and received instructions from one of the librarians. Then, they began their task of the day – combing through the bookshelves to look for and relocate any titles that were in the wrong section.
“I want to help out because a lot of students do [their] readings here,” Siqi Wang ‘27 said. “If you have a really nice shelf, it will be better for them to read.”
The school library is a widely-used resource throughout the school, and organizing the thousands of books can quickly become overwhelming for librarians. For some, this event was a way to bond with friends while helping the library.
“I joined the club because I thought I could [truly] help out in the community,” Prabhavee Thirimanna ‘26 said. “[Some] people don’t care about some of this stuff, so I thought I could help out and highlight the value of [the library].”
For others, the club offers a way to earn service hours for organizations such as National Honor Society (NHS) while simultaneously giving back to the community.
“I needed [club] points and hours,” Isabella Acosta ‘26 said. “I joined Outreach because it’s such a great community and I love every single person in it.”
