In a fast paced stomping, varsity boys basketball faced the Anderson Trojans on Tuesday, November 19th. As both sides focused on points in the paint, each team was forced into a defensive playstyle. Fortunately, After a hard fought game, the Warriors came out on top, beating the Trojans 59-45.
Beginning the game, both teams made strong efforts to get on the board and after only a few minutes into the game, the score remained tied 5-5. Indy McBrearty ‘25 brought the Warriors ahead, jumping around the opposing team to make the shot, bringing the boys up two over the Trojans. Bringing the Warriors up another basket only 20 seconds later, Thomas Burke drained the free throw after a foul from the Trojans. However, soon catching up, the Trojans brought the game 10-10. This tie did not last as the Warriors continued on the offensive as another three pointer towards the end of the quarter brought the Warriors back into the lead.
“We played good as a team tonight,” John Chuo ’26 said.
The lead for the Warriors continued as the cramped student section cheered on Chuo as he snatched a rebound from the Trojans and made the quick break for two. As the strong lead continued for the Warriors, Tyson Woods ‘25 made sure the Trojans weren’t able to score, locking down the opposing players in the paint, not letting anyone score even as they knocked him to the ground.
At the half, the Warriors were not able to celebrate the victory just yet as the game was still three baskets away at 30-21, with Westwood in the lead.
But soon, After a slow start to the second half, the Warriors set the score 31-25, as Burke brought the Warriors two more points on the free throw line after another foul from Anderson. But, even after a tiring first half, Burke’s shooting technique never faltered, and it showed on the scoreboard. Continuing their run, Dillon Garza ’25 put two more on the board and brought the score to 35-28. And with only two minutes into the final quarter, Luke Carpenter ‘26 drove down the key through a blockade of Trojans and brought the score to 49-29. After a few more buckets, Carpenter scored again only a minute later, bringing the score 53-29. Throughout the second half, the Warriors completely dominated the court both on offense and defense as Chuo made great moves towards the end of the game, controlling the rebound game.
“I feel pretty excited to play right before a game, no nerves,” Chuo said.
After some final great plays from the whole team, the Warriors came out on top due to their strong defense combined with some quick layups put the final score being 59-45.
The Warriors will be back on their home court on Tuesday, November 26th against the McNeil Mavericks.
