To continue their ongoing victory streak, the JV women’s soccer team earned yet another win against the Hutto Hippos, shutting them out 3-0, on Friday, Jan. 24. Now well into the season and accustomed to the new team dynamic, the Warriors were entirely focused on honing their skills on the field by delivering only aggressiveness to the other team.
“Encouragement is just really important, both on the bench and on the field,” Jordan Lott ‘27 said. “Just being encouraging and keeping our heads up is [always] good.”
The developing power seen in their last home game against the Cedar Ridge Raiders returned and was felt throughout the game, as the Warriors pushed the ball up and down the field in swift drives from the start. However, while the first few minutes of the first half were action-packed, much of the action failed to gain any traction as both teams could only manage to make shots on goal, with most flying out of bounds. Striving to recreate success from their past games, the Warriors aimed to keep the ball strictly in Hutto’s half. However soon, the Hippos managed to have their own small bouts of offense by streaming past the Warrior defense. But fortunately for the Warriors, any shots taken were blocked by goalkeeper Magnolia McBrearty ‘28.
“When preparing for games, [we] go over a game plan and review film from other games [to know what we need to work on],” Lott said.
The Warriors quickly gained their footing. Through passes down field, the Warriors moved past their defenders and scored their first goal about ten minutes into the game. This calculated aggressiveness continued as the Warriors stuffed the offense down their opponents’ throats, jamming in another shot only a few minutes later. However this renewed power began to spiral out of control as the Warriors got too aggressive, resulting in a number of penalty kicks given to the Hippos .
“I think the highlights of [all of our] games [are] when we score,” Lott said. “It just feels good to score and win.”
As the second half began, both teams brought back refreshed energy, resulting in another bout of quick turnovers. These turnovers re-tested the Warrior defense as most of the game hasbeen offensively dominated. However, this defense was only temporary, as the Warriors were able to bring back their team coordination and pass the ball down the field in strong drives to put Hutto back on the defensive. They continued this team spirit by weaving past the Hippo defense with quick passes and sustained movement. Soon, in the Warriors’ final drive, defender Madeleine Ziegler ‘27 made a pass to forward Giselle Garcia ‘27, who dinked the ball in for the Warriors’ third goal of the night, ending the game 3-0.
“[The biggest thing in a team setting is] communication,” Lott said. “It is really important to make sure that we’re all on the same page [at all times].”
The JV women’s soccer team will return for their next home game against the Stony Point Tigers at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Warrior Bowl.
