Claiming their highest-scoring win of the season, the JV women’s soccer team added yet another power-packed victory to their season’s record, crushing the Stony Point Tigers 6-0 on Tuesday, Feb. 4. In stark contrast to their past games filled to the brim with aggressiveness and robust attacks, the Warriors focused on finesse and team plays that lit their way to an easy win.
“I thought we did pretty good,” Ella Smith ‘27 said. “We started off a little slow, a little rough, but I think we pulled it together in the end — it was [definitely] a good win.”
The Warriors began their game searching for an opening, quickly adjusting to the opposing team they efficiently maneuvered the ball into Tigers’ territory where it remained for the majority of the first half. After making numerous shots on goal, the Warriors fell back on their new team dynamic to successfully dink one in, scoring their first goal five minutes into the game. This sense of ease remained with the Warriors as they effortlessly continued to weave through their home turf while the Tigers struggled to recuperate from the Warriors’ onslaught.
“I mean, [for us], it was kind of a low-intensity game, but we kept it together pretty well,” Jordan Lott ‘27 said.
Content with their first goal, the Warriors allow the play to shift from powerful short strikes to long alternating drives across the field. The Tigers aimed to use this new development to gain the upper hand through speed rather than power, but the Warriors easily cut it off by maneuvering their way into a corner kick, leading to their second goal of the game. Soon however, the teams entered a slump as they went head to head in an attempt to gain consistent possession of the ball. This drag was soon interrupted by a halfhearted Warrior goal attempt which the Tiger goalie mistakenly pushed deeper into the net, giving the Warriors’ their third goal.
“I think we found really good ways to move up the field and connect passes together,” Smith said. “But we [definitely] need to work on our communication.”
With the scoreboard stacked in the Warriors’ favor, the Tigers were pressured to tune up their offense, swerving down field, handing numerous close calls to the Warriors. Utilizing their agility and scoreboard advantage to their benefit, the Warriors allowed the Tigers to tire themselves out by traveling down the field, only to steal possession and regain their hold in Tiger territory. This quick teamwork and renewed energy allows the Warriors to clinch their fourth goal of the game, with only 20 seconds left in the first half.
“[Our team dynamic] is a lot better than it was last year,” Lott said. “We’ve become a very tight team, and have especially [connected] with the freshmen. I think it really just added to the morale, and it’s really good for the team.”
Relentless with their spirit and power, the Warriors wasted no time, swinging the ball into the net to score their fifth goal only a few seconds into the second half. Now alarmed with the ramping pressure of back-to-back Warrior goals, the Tigers brought a final push of newfound aggressiveness to the field, stopping following shots on goal from making it in. Deviating from the general trend of the Warriors’ home games, the ball moved equally from half to half, testing the Warriors’ defense just as much as their offense. The Warriors however pushed back against the Tigers’ aggressiveness with their own, preventing the Tigers from allowing their offense to carry out much more than a pass or two.
After long bouts of alternating drives across the field, the Warriors swiftly dinked it into the net once more, ending the game up 6-0, stamping out the Tigers.
The JV women’s soccer team will return for their next home game against the Vista Ridge Rangers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11.
