In a high intensity game, the varsity women’s soccer team defeated the Stony Point Tigers 5-0 on Tuesday, Feb 4. The Warriors quickly set the tone after the first ten minutes, as Mia Wiele ‘26 opened the game on a freekick goal. From the very beginning, the Warriors were pressing high and passed quickly, keeping control of the ball.
“I think the game went really really well,” Bella Keene ‘25 said. “Everyone fought hard for each other, everyone was really encouraging, and I think that is what pushed us through.”
Just a few minutes later, off of a corner kick from Wiele, Audrey Savoie ‘26 re-bounded the ball into the goal. Throughout the game, the Warriors often used corner kicks as their goal opportunities and attempted to either kick or head the ball into the goal.
“In the center, I can see the whole field and so I was able to view the outsides, view the back and be able to make those one two passes to move up the field with their high press,” Natalie Safarik ‘25 said.
With nine minutes remaining in the first half, the Warriors drove up the sidelines and passed into the box to set a chance for Prithika Chandrasekar ‘25 to tap it in for the third point of the night. With three goals by halftime, the Warriors were working well as a team, moving the ball around the field, finding open space. Then, 22 minutes into the second half, Payton Vopat ‘26 jammed in a fourth goal from 20 yards out
“I think that we did a really good transition from the first half to the second half – we were able to finish all the shots that we were trying to take,” Safarik said. “We were able to get the ball in the goal, communicate, and what we were really focusing on at half time was our one two passes and I feel like we did a good job with that.”
Just five minutes later, Lanier Harvey ‘25 took another opportunity off of an open spot in the defense. She ran down the right side of the field and as someone covered for her position, shooting in the final goal of the game, bringing the final score to 5-0 in favor of the Warriors.
“This season has gone by really really [well],” Keene said. “We’ve only tied two games this district season and we’re looking to win the rest of them to make it really far in playoffs.”
The Varsity women’s team will play their next home game on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 7:15 p.m., against the Vista Ridge Rangers.
