Beto O’Rourke Austin Mural Vandalized
Over the past weekend, the recently unveiled mural of El Paso Congressman Beto O’Rourke was vandalized.
On the first day of early voting in Texas, Oct. 22, artist Chris Rogers posted an Instagram photo of his mural, located near Cesar Chavez and East Second Street, of candidate O’Rourke depicted as a superhero. O’Rourke is seen ripping open his costume with an illuminated Batman-esque symbol of the letter B in the background. The spray-painted words of the vandals on top of the mural include phrases such as “Imperialist Pig,” “No hero,” “El Paso gentrifier supports Israel,” and other various forms of political controversy in red and white paint.
The defacing of the mural seems to have arisen because of the recent political divide between supporters of the two running candidates for Texas Senator.
