Health science students gathered in the atrium on Thursday, March 14 to visit the health science career fair. The event was organized by the Health Science Academy Ambassadors and 17 different professionals were brought in to teach students about opportunities in the medical field.

“At first it was scary to organize this event, but I had some experience with the previous governing team last year who I got an insight into what they were doing. I took some of their advice and added some new things,” Health Science Ambassador Governing Team member Navya Neerukonda ‘19 said. “This would be the fourth event that I’ve organized.”

There were four different sessions in 30 minutes increments running from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Students were also able to speak with the professionals at their booths and learn about the organizations that were brought in.

“The health science career fair was a cool experience since we got to interact with a lot of professionals in the health science field,” Aashi Vishnoi ‘21 said. “It was fun to walk around to all of the booths and learn about different careers and hear the stories they told us about their jobs. It was good exposure top all of the different businesses out there that are in the field of medicine.”

The career fair boasted organizations the Austin Police Department, which brought in emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Some booths set out free souvenirs to help students remember the organization and hopefully come back to apply for a job in the future.

“We had a lot of people come by. It was really busy and loud, so that was good,” Neerukonda said. “I felt like the people that we had here had a good representation of careers that people don’t really think about.”

The next event for not only the Health Science Academy Ambassadors, but all of the Academy Ambassadors, will be the Ambassador Leadership Workshop on Wednesday, March 27.
