On Nov. 18, physical education students from around the district convened at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex (KRAC) for the fifth annual Fit Games. The Games were centered around teaching students to stay fit and active, and allowing them to have fun participating in group workouts and competing against different teams from other schools around the district.
“It was really fun because we were able to meet new people from different schools and the overall teamwork was amazing,” Matthew Moore ‘18 said .
During the competition, all of the competing groups participated in a string of different CrossFit exercises during the day, including running a relay with a medicine ball, pushing a sled, and doing a workout that consisted of lunges, burpees, and lifting dumbbells. While being timed, peers cheered for one another, encouraging them to keep going and working hard.
“My favorite part was cheering on my teammates because it was fun to see how well they were doing,” Alyssa Lam ‘19 said.
All of the activities at the Fit Games were team-oriented, allowing students to participate without having all of the weight on their own shoulders, and bonding and encouraging others while they worked. For every exercise, only two people could work at a time, allowing participants time to catch their breath and encourage their teammates to keep working. With the games oriented around teamwork, students could enjoy working with their friends and meeting new people.
“The teamwork really put people together who haven’t really worked together,” Dylan De Leon ’17 said, “and showed how good the team could be.”
Out of all the teams that participated, the Warriors had four teams place. Two girls’ teams placed third in both divisions, and one placed first. One of the boys’ teams placed second as well. Congratulations to everyone who participated.
