The Westwood Warriors Fencing Club (WWFC) has grown to around 10 regulars and has seen consistent success at competition. Many fencers have brought home bronze, silver, and gold medals from top three placings at local and state competitions. Gary Murray, former coach of Olympians and national champions, and head coach of the Round Rock Fencing Club, donates his time, expertise, and fencing equipment to make WWFC’s mission of providing the opportunity of fencing, a usually expensive sport, free of charge to all interested students possible.
Fencing is a much more popular sport than is commonly known. America’s southern states, in fact, have been an Epee, the modern descendant of the old dueling weapon, powerhouse for hundreds of years. Many Americans from Texas and the other southern states have gone on to become World, National, College, State, and Regional Champions especially in Epee.
Students interested in trying out fencing, completely free of charge, should text 512-970-1374. The club meets every other Wednesday right after school in the new Blackbox Theatre.
