Red Cross Club Makes a Difference

The Red Cross Club’s first meeting was on Thursday, September 4 at 4:20 p.m. in Ms. Dang’s classroom (E2108). Co-presidents Danny Lang ‘16 and Ben Akande ‘16 kicked off the meeting by informing the members of upcoming projects involving “Keep Austin Beautiful” and a supply drive for the Austin Humane Society. All students are encouraged to bring items such as can openers, paper towels, and toys to donate to the Austin Humane Society. Members of the Red Cross club will be present at booths during all lunches to collect items.

“I’m very excited about the events we’re organizing this year,” said Lang. “We get to work Race for the Cure and the Turkey Trot, and towards the end of the year we get to learn a CPR certification course. It’s all going to be a lot of fun!”

The main purpose of Red Cross Club is to participate in a variety of volunteer events around the Austin area, and learn about First Aid training.

“I joined the Red Cross Club because I want to get involved and help out in the community,” Valentina Novoa ‘16 said. “I really feel like I’m really making a difference by taking part in this club.” Meetings are every other Thursday afternoon in Mrs. Dang’s room (E2108), unless announced otherwise. The next meeting will be on September 18, at 4:20 p.m.
