Football Player Makes Lasting Impression as a Freshman

IMG_0001Westwood lost 21-48 at its home opener against Georgetown, starting off the 2015 football season with a loss. Starting linebacker Jaikem Murphy ‘18 had already proven his talent last year by making the varsity football team as a freshman. Murphy has put his heart and soul into each and every game he has played.

Over the years Murphy has been working tirelessly to get himself to where he is today and hopes to have the chance to play in college and maybe even professionally someday.

“Playing football for Ohio State has always been a dream of mine,” Murphy said. According to CBS Sports, Ohio State is ranked number one nationally in football this year.

Murphy had a few games that stood out the most, one of which was the Cedar Park game.

“The highlight of my football season was the Cedar Park game,” Murphy said. “It was the game that I did some of my best plays and completed seven tackles.”

Last year, Murphy had 58 tackles. According to CBS Sports, high school linebackers average about two to four tackles per game.

He has spent years preparing for where he is now by playing for Pop Warner Football from third grade until fifth grade and took a break before resuming in seventh grade, during which he played for Deer Park Middle School.

After a spectacular year as a sophomore, Murphy wants to show all he can do. He has rightfully become a forever Westwood fighting Warrior.
